Stephen Ministry

Stephen Ministry was chartered and established at Shepherd of Peace in Sergeant Bluff, IA when founding leaders Diane Clark and Pastor Tim Schiller
attended certification training in Missouri and Texas in 2014. The founding class of Stephens Ministers began their training in January 2015 and included: Diane Zanter, Carla Erickson, Sue Mitchell, Mike Zarbano, Craig & Sue Barnes and Laura Schiller. This initial class will complete over 50 hours of extensive classroom training before they are able to begin providing care to individuals in need of support.

Stephen Ministry congregations equip and empower lay caregivers, called Stephen Ministers, to provide high-quality, confidential, Christ-centered care to
people who are hurting.
Stephen Ministers are Christian men and women, trained to provide one-to-one care to people experiencing a difficult time in life, such as grief, divorce, job loss, chronic or terminal illness, relocation, or separation due to military deployment.

Stephen Ministers come from all walks of life. Their commonality? A passion for bringing Christ’s love and care to people during a time of need.
Since 1975, more than 600,000 people from more than 11,000 congregations and other organizations have been trained as Stephen Ministers.

If you or someone you know could benefit from the care of a Stephen Minister, or you are interested in possibly becoming a Stephen Minister or have any questions about Stephen Ministry, please c

Stephen Ministry at Shepherd of Peace Church announces a new continuing education lecture series in 2017.  All lecture series presentations will take place at Shepherd of Peace Church at 203 Port Neal Rd. in Sergeant Bluff. All presentations are open to the public and everyone is invited to attend.

The first presentation in the series is scheduled for Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at 7:00pm with an in-depth look at Human Trafficking and to share information about this problem here in Siouxland. We will have a guest speaker from the Siouxland Coalition Against Human Trafficking.  The agencies mission is to create a cultural change environment by educating and raising awareness about the presence and occurrence of human trafficking in Siouxland for the general public, professionals working with the problem, and its victims and survivors. Human trafficking is forcing people to work or commit prostitution for little or no payment.  It is becoming a large problem in the United States and right here in Sioux City and surrounding communities.

Our lecture series will cover a variety of topics each month throughout 2017 with dates and times to be announced each month on our website at www.shepherdofpeacechurch.com.  Future lecture series topics will include the following with future dates not listed to be announced in advance of the presentation:

  • Human Trafficking March 21st
  • Teen Suicide April 25th
  • Dealing with Death of a Child June 6th
  • Dealing with Cancer July 11th
  • Sexual Assault August 15th
  • Homeless September 12th
  • Coping with a Major Illness October 17th
  • Coping with Depression November 14th
